Edinburgh hands you something almost no other European city gives a photographer: a 55.95-degree-north sun that arcs low across the volcanic skyline year-round, with the longest blue-hour window on the continent. Sunrise in summer falls before 5 AM and stretches usable light past 10 PM, while December's three-hour shootable window from 9 AM to noon concentrates gold light straight onto the gothic stone of the Old Town. Knowing those windows is what separates a clean Edinburgh frame from a flat one, and it shapes every shoot our local team runs across the city.

We schedule couples at The Vennel before 7:30 AM in winter, when the cobbled steps frame Edinburgh Castle through converging tenement walls and the tripod queue has not yet formed. Sunrise sessions move to Calton Hill in summer for the 360-degree panorama of the Castle, Old Town, and Firth of Forth, and the Dugald Stewart Monument doubles as a halo backdrop at blue hour. Families head out to the open lawns at the Royal Botanic Garden or down through Dean Village's storybook valley, ten minutes from Princes Street, but feeling like a different century. Proposal sessions sit further out on the Salisbury Crags ridge at Arthur's Seat, with the photographer 40 to 50 metres back on a telephoto lens.

The Old Town and New Town are walkable end-to-end, sessions run from a 30-minute Bronze to a 120-minute Platinum, and every gallery is delivered within four business days. Whether you are after a couple shoot along Victoria Street's painted curve or a solo portrait sequence in Dean Village, the frames live or die by who is holding the camera and what hour you arrive.
